Private Voice Lessons (Lacey / East Oly)

Do you want to sing? ... Love to sing? ... NEED to sing?

Have you always wanted to sing? Are you a beginner who desires (and understands the importance of) a strong foundation? Perhaps you have some singing experience, but now realize that you bypassed that all-important foundation and are experiencing problems or are unable to progress any further as a result? Has the absence of vocal training undermined your musical self-confidence?

I am a classically trained, professional singer with 30+ years of experience in various performance genres, in addition to teaching experience. I love to teach passionate students; students who truly want to succeed and make their voices the very best that they can become. I will assess your voice and your ear during our initial session. If I feel I can help you, I will teach you the techniques of proper breathing, support, breath control, intonation, vocal health, diction, etc. Vocal exercises will be liberally employed throughout your lesson time, as they are the very best tool to help develop and strengthen your voice, eliminate/smooth 'breaks' (i.e., passagios), and eventually expand your vocal range, if possible.

Once you have established a strong foundation and are ready to grow, I will teach you about dynamics and how to phrase a tune artistically so that you can properly and effectively tell its story. A good voice is only part of the picture; dynamics, phrasing, a good ear and rhythmic sense are other important/essential elements of the equation.

What are some of the benefits of vocal training?

* Vocal Excellence
* Avoid Vocal Injury
* Musical Self-Confidence
* Preserve Your Voice for the Long Haul
* Pleasure for Both You and Your Audience!

Additional benefits for professional musicians:

* Capture and Hold Audience Attention
* Become More Employable and Better Able to Build a Following
* Professional Musicians Add an Extra Dimension to Their Performances

I accept male and female students -- late teens (18 & 19) through adult. If you have the drive and desire to learn the secrets of good singing technique -- those things that will give you musical self-confidence -- I invite you to my voice studio where you can learn them in a safe, supportive environment. Please e-mail me if you are interested.

Singer songwriter with home studio seeks bass, drums, guitar and/or (your instrument here)…

I would like to put together a folk/rock/alt-country/pop band with an emphasis on strong harmonies, so if you can play an instrument and find and keep a vocal harmony PLEASE give me a call and let’s chat. I have a dozen + originals and a short list of covers that I’d like to try; bring your songs/ideas to the table and we’ll try them too. I also have most of the gear that we need to get started, and a place to play/record. Wanna switch off on different instruments? I mostly want to play guitar and sing, but also play drums, bass, banjo and harmonica. Odd instruments (mando, fiddle, dulcimer…?) or other multi-instrumentalists strongly encouraged to contact me as well.

Let’s try to put together a set (or 2) of really tight material with an eye toward gigging, but mostly just to see what develops and (hopefully) make some really great music! If it is right and tight, the gigs will follow.

You can hear some tracks of me solo @ myspace.com/benjaminkemp. They are a few years old, except for the first one. None of them would necessarily be included in this project, but should give you an idea of what I sound like. My general philosophy is that less is more, and that after great songwriting, dynamics are the most vital element of a good band.

Prefer local (greater Olympia area). Would like “seasoned” players, but realize that chemistry can be as important as ability. If any of this sounds interesting, shoot me an email w/your phone # and we’ll go from there.

Peace…and happy hunting!
My rates are $13.00 for 30 minutes, $20 for 45 minutes, or $25.00 per hour, and the first lesson is free. For younger children, I would recommend 30 minute increments once every week or so.
Along with basic technique and sight reading, I will also cover beginning music theory in order to create a strong foundation of musicianship.

I am a 18 year old male vocalist/rhythm guitarist who has been trying to get a band together for a long time. I've been singing for about 7 years, but singing rock vocals for 4. My range is pretty wide, as i can go either high or low, and as for what i sound like, I can change it to be just about anything. I've covered many bands ranging from more pop-punk bands like Yellowcard and All Time Low, To more emo-rock bands like Escape the Fate. I am NOT a screamer. I have attempted, failed, and ended up hurting my voice in the process. As for guitar I've been playing for 3 years, and am getting better at accompanying myself while singing. I have a "Frontman" personality, meaning i'm very active on stage. I enjoy being the center of attention, But want my fellow bandmates to shine too. My inspirations are Yellowcard, Fall Out Boy, All Time Low, AFI, Blink-182, and Muse. As for gear, I have my 3 guitars and a 60-watt amp, but no mic yet. I have transportation and am willing to drive somewhere to play, But I also have somewhat of a practice space. If your interests line up with these, then please either Email me or give me a call at 360-918-6656. Thanks again!

Guitarist/Synth player looking for somebody or peoples to jam with (Lacey/Olympia)

Hello,

My best friend and musical partner recently moved away. I am all alone with nobody to jam and make crazy sounds with :( Please help, I have an arsenal of vintage tube amps, effects, looper, drum machines, guitars and I also have a synthesizer. I record everything as well with my portable Boss recorder. I need to play music with others in order to be happy. I just like to improvise and jam. I like all sorts of music but I think I am best suited for post rock or drone. Some of the bands I like: Explosions in the Sky, Pink Floyd, Sunn O)), Radiohead, Mogwai, Spiritualized, The Beatles, Tool, Mono, Phish, Miles Davis etc. I played percussion for many years before switching to guitar/synth a few years ago so I am not a technical wizard but I try to make up for that in tone, creativity and emotion. I don't have a place to jam but can come to you.

I have a pretty busy schedule with not a lot of free time but I can commit to jamming once a week for a nice long several hour musical experience. Seriously, I am not a flake and I am very easy to get along with, two traits that can be somewhat rare for a musician.

To hear the music I used to make with my friend and some of my solo stuff check out http://www.myspace.com/echosofinfiniti Basically all of it was recorded live. I just put up two new drone type tracks "The Dance of the Wooly Mammoth" and "The Sounds nO))) computer can make"

Seriously if you think you might be interested please contact me and we can give it a try, if our styles don't gel it won't hurt my feelings. I am open to play with beginners as well, heck I have only been playing guitar for 2 years. My style is not for everyone, I really like loud abstract psychedelic style freak out jams with lots of texture and feedback lots of spacey noise and space ship type sounds. I am not interested in playing covers, lets create something unique that has never been heard before and probably can't be reproduced again. I would love to jam with a drummer/bassist/drum machine/Keys/horns/second guitarist/vocalist whatever. Again, I don't have a place to jam at so you would have to provide that. Well once in a blue moon my house could host a jam when my family is not there. I am 33 and open to jam with kids all the way up to the elderly.

Millions of Dead Cops, Dirty Rotten Imbeciles, Graveyard Rodeo, Pantera, Throwdown. Clutch, Acid Bath, Pennywise, Bad Religion to Johnny Cash, Cocknoose, GG Allin and Antiscene . I can listen to Eminem or Insane Clown Posse or Toby Mack....but my heart is hardcore. I've got a day job; I'm not looking to change careers. I've sung (yelled) in hardcore/crossover bands before. If you're looking for 'lalalala' butt rock signer, go elsewhere.
If you think Metallica sucks or if you're looking to play some heavy music with some social conscious lyrics - then lets chat. I'm older and mature; can handle younger - if you're mature. Must be legal to have a beer - and that's young - so no kids. I have whatever I need - or can afford to get whatever I need and don't have. Have a job and desire to have fun.

* Vocal Excellence
* Avoid Vocal Injury
* Musical Self-Confidence

Looking for someone else into hip-hop, electro, breaks, 80s pop/whatever to work with using turntables and computers. I use a dvs with my turntables and have been getting into ableton more. I've been using reason for years and cubase so daws aren't new to me.

It'd be nice if you had your own equipment (two turntables/mixer/serato/torq/traktor and/or computer/sampler) as well as knowing how to use it. Sorry, I'm not a very good teacher.

Eventually I'd like someone to do live stuff with with turntables/ableton. Maybe a show or a monthly? I have some freetime and a space to practice.

Myspace links are a plus, or any link to stuff you've done or stuff you're into.

Hey,
I have been playing for three years, and looking to Jam with others. I don't have alot of tricks but give me the chord notes and I'll keep the low end rocking. Between the National Guard and family, i'm not looking to be a rock star in a band, can commit to a pratice a week and possibly a few shows with a group. Does not have to be a Christian group or person. Willing to travel to Tacoma/Oly. Stable, have gear +PA gear. Stuff Like, Third day, Creed, 3 doors down, Nickelback or what ever.
